Choose a server rack that fits the equipment, its mounting hardware and the space needed for service. Start with an equipment schedule rather than choosing a cabinet by its height alone.

Height: count the rack units
Rack-mounted equipment height is commonly stated in U; one U is 44.45 mm. Add the space required by equipment, horizontal cable managers, patch panels and other mounted accessories. Reserve the additional space required by the equipment’s installation instructions and your growth plan.
For example, two 1U switches, two 1U patch panels, two 1U cable managers and a 2U UPS total 8U. This server rack example is a space count, not approval to install them in any 8U cabinet: depth, weight and service access still need checking.
Separate cabinet depth from mounting depth
Compare the equipment’s body depth and rail-kit range with the cabinet’s usable space and adjustable mounting rails. Also leave room for connectors, cable bends, doors and service access. However, external cabinet depth is not the same as usable equipment depth.
Check the complete server rack weight
Next, include equipment, batteries, shelves, PDUs and accessories in the planned server rack load. Then confirm the cabinet rating for its intended installation. A load rating on levelling feet may differ from a rating on castors or during movement.
Check shelf and rail ratings separately. A cabinet that supports the overall weight does not establish that a particular shelf can support a heavy device. Use the mounting arrangement specified for the equipment.
Prepare a fit checklist
Send Richcom the equipment model, quantity, U height, depth, weight and mounting-kit details. Add room dimensions, delivery-route restrictions and the planned spare capacity. Ask the proposal to identify usable mounting depth and included accessories explicitly.
