Memory Card Buying Guide: Match the card format first
Full-size SD, microSD and CompactFlash are different physical formats. The current flash-memory category includes a CompactFlash model as well as SD cards, so read the exact product name. An SD card cannot simply replace CompactFlash. Check the device manual for accepted card families, maximum capacity and supported file-system requirements.
Read speed is different from recording speed
A large advertised read-speed figure mainly helps describe transfers to a compatible reader. Recording needs sustained writing performance. SD Speed Class, UHS Speed Class and Video Speed Class address defined minimum sequential performance. Choose the class required by your camera rather than assuming every card with a high read-speed label is suitable for the same recording mode.
Check the reader as well as the card
UHS-II performance requires a suitable host or reader. Capacity, bus interface and speed class are separate details, so compare all three. For photography, consider how many cards you want in rotation and how you will copy files after a shoot. Keep another copy of important material; a memory card is not the only place valuable work should live.
