24-Port Gigabit PoE+ Connectivity

The S220S-24LP4JX provides 24 × 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet ports with PoE+ support, allowing compatible devices to receive both network data and electrical power over a single Ethernet cable.

This makes the switch particularly suitable for IP CCTV cameras, Wi-Fi access points, VoIP phones, access-control equipment and other compatible PoE-powered network devices.

The switch provides a 195 W shared PoE power budget across its PoE+ interfaces. The number of powered devices that can operate simultaneously depends on the actual power consumption of each connected device.

10 Gigabit SFP+ Uplinks

A major advantage of the S220S-24LP4JX is its 2 × 10GE SFP+ uplink ports. Huawei specifies support for 10G, 1G and 100M operation on these interfaces.

The 10 Gigabit uplinks provide significantly higher backbone bandwidth than conventional Gigabit-only switches, making the switch suitable for aggregation links, server connections, high-bandwidth switch-to-switch links and network backbones where traffic from multiple Gigabit access devices must be carried simultaneously.

Additional 2.5GE SFP Connectivity

In addition to the 10GE SFP+ interfaces, the switch provides 2 × 2.5GE SFP ports. Huawei designed the S220S family with multi-rate optical uplink options to improve network deployment flexibility.

This combination gives the S220S-24LP4JX four optical uplink interfaces in total: two 10GE SFP+ and two 2.5GE SFP.

195W PoE+ Power Budget

The switch supports a maximum PoE output budget of 195 W. Huawei specifies maximum total power consumption of 277.55 W at full PoE load, with 195 W allocated to PoE. Maximum consumption without PoE load is approximately 38.58 W.

For installations with numerous powered devices, the combined power requirement of all devices should remain within the available 195 W PoE budget.

Perpetual PoE

The S220S PoE models, including the S220S-24LP4JX, support Perpetual PoE. This functionality is designed to maintain power delivery to connected powered devices during certain switch restart scenarios, such as software upgrades, helping reduce interruptions to devices such as cameras and access points.

Layer 2 Managed Networking

Huawei positions the eKitEngine S220S family as Layer 2 GE/10GE managed switches for SME and SMB networks. The series supports advanced Ethernet functionality including STP, RSTP, MSTP and ERPS, together with LACP link aggregation and storm control.

ERPS is based on ITU-T G.8032 and provides rapid protection switching for Ethernet ring networks, making the switch suitable for networks where link redundancy and availability are important.

VLAN Management

The S220S Series supports up to 4094 VLANs, allowing administrators to logically segment a physical network into separate groups. It also supports a maximum 16K MAC address entries, with static, dynamic and blackhole MAC entries as well as automatic MAC learning and aging.

This is useful for separating departments, CCTV systems, wireless networks, guest devices and other network resources.

Network Security

The S220S platform includes business-class security capabilities such as DoS, ARP and ICMP attack protection, DHCP Snooping, Secure Boot, port isolation, blackhole MAC entries, AAA authentication and CPU protection.

DHCP Snooping can maintain binding information and help ensure that network clients communicate with authorized DHCP servers.

QoS and Traffic Management

The switch supports interface rate limiting, IPv4 ACLs, interface-based traffic policing, packet filtering and eight queues per interface. These functions allow administrators to control bandwidth usage and prioritize network traffic according to business requirements.

Cloud and Local Management

Huawei supports both cloud-based and on-premise management for the S220S Series. Management and maintenance options include the HUAWEI eKit App, SNC, web management, SSH v2.0 and HTTPS, together with LLDP, system logging, alarms and port mirroring.

Huawei’s cloud management allows compatible switches to be configured, monitored and inspected through the eKit environment.

Smart Upgrade

The eKitEngine S220S Series supports Huawei Online Upgrade Repository (HOUP) based smart upgrades. Huawei states that the system can obtain an appropriate upgrade path and supports one-click upgrades and version pre-loading to simplify software maintenance.

Professional 1U Rack-Mount Design

The S220S-24LP4JX uses a 1U metal chassis measuring 43.6 × 442 × 220 mm and weighs approximately 2.8 kg without packaging. It supports rack, desktop and wall mounting.

Unlike several smaller S220S models, this high-power PoE model uses active cooling with two built-in fans and intelligent fan-speed adjustment.

Suitable Applications

The Huawei eKitEngine S220S-24LP4JX is well suited to IP CCTV surveillance networks, Wi-Fi access point deployments, SME and corporate offices, schools, hotels, commercial buildings, retail environments, factories, multi-floor networks, network distribution cabinets and high-speed fiber backbone deployments. Huawei specifically positions the S220S family for SME offices, hotels, factories, education and building-security scenarios.

Important Note

The 195 W PoE rating is the total shared PoE budget, not 195 W available on each port. Actual supported device count depends on the power requirement of the connected PoE devices.
